Interview of Juliana Hutchings
1. Motive or purpose in writing your book.
My ideas for A Horse to Remember began as a child when my sister and I would play with model horses, known as Breyers. The Breyers had many accessories, most of which we made, but also things like riders and saddles. With them we made up many scenarios to form our play around, one of which inspired me to write my novel. I wanted to preserve our childhood game, along with our many fond memories together, and, although the ideas are all my own, I would have never written this book without my sister.
2. What do you want the reader to experience?
I want the reader to take this journey with Hilary, as she learns about horses, but more importantly about life. It will teach the reader to never give up on their dreams, and however difficult their goal may seem, to presevere and strive for what is wanted.
3. Essential information or story that makes your book unique:
I wrote my novel at a young age, 14, and with this I was able to relate to the character in my book, who is also that age. In addition the book easily connects with the young adults because it was written by one.
4. Who is this book for or what is your intended market? This novel is aimed at young adults.
5. What is the reader age for your book? 8-16
6. Please state your future plans or career.
I wish to continue my work as an author, as I am working on other novels right now, but possibly work as an editor, when I am older. In the near future I plan to continue my work with horses. I am a trainer and instructor and through the years I wish to keep this job going.
7. Educational History (List school, city, state, degree and specialization).
Currently enrolled in Avon Grove High School, West Grove, PA. Grade 11
8. Have you been on radio, TV or interviewed by a newspaper?
Not yet for my book, but with horses and running cross-country I have.
9. Have you spoken in front of groups before? yes

After her family relocates to the small country town of Lewisburg, Tennessee, Hilary Thompson, who has lived and thrived in the city the whole 13 years of her life, feels as if her world has stopped turning. When she begins working at the local stables owned by Susan Collins, she meets Satan, a wild mustang stallion who belongs to Susan's rebellious son Jeremy. Satan seems as lonely and out-of-place in his new surroundings as she is in hers. When Jeremy fails to tame Satan, and his mother threatens to sell the horse, Hilary resolves to tame him.
But can a girl who knows nothing about horses gain the trust of an aggressive mustang? And will she be able to keep her efforts a secret? Encouraged by a new friendship and suffering the aggravation of a new rival, Hilary spends increasingly more time with the stallion. As her affection for the mustang grows, Hilary learns about horses, people, and the greatest lesson of all, unconditional love.
