Cynthia's Attic, by Mary Cunningham Two friends go back in time when they discover a secret in Cynthia's attic in this delightful series of magical adventure.

Anne of Green Gables, by Lucy Maud Montgomery Anne Shirley, with a temper as fiery as her red hair, and an imagination like no other, is finally being adopted, the happiest day of her life. Or so she thinks until the mistake is revealed and she learns that it was a boy, not a girl that the Cuthberts want. Kids from any age and place can relate to Anne's adventures, hopes, dreams, and heartaches in this timeless classic.

Fergus: The Soccer-Playing Colt, by Dan A. Peterson A palomino colt bred to play polo choose soccer instead, much to the amazement of his twelve-year-old owner and his friend. Soon the media learns of the antics and talents of Fergus his fame spreads quickly. Not only is he sought after to tour the country and promote the game, but he is coveted by some shady characters who think they can make a fortune by stealing and disguising him. The would-be horsenappers provide both suspense and a lot of humor in this fast-paced story.

A Horse to Remember, by Juliana Hutchings Teenaged Hilary Thompson hardly knows what to do with herself when her family moves from the city where she has always lived; away from the shopping malls and her friends. When she goes to work at a horse farm next door to her new home she discovers a completely different life from what she has always known. She makes new friends, learns new skills, and she befriends a wild mustang--and through the bond they form, she also discovers herself.

The Orange Slipknot, by Jan Young Twelve-year-old Ben wants more than anything to please his father and follow in his footsteps to become a cowboy on the big cattle ranch in the Great Basin region of Nevada. The trouble is, his boyish antics get him and his father into trouble with the cowboss when his successful attempt to rope a ground squirrel goes badly awry.

My Friend Flicka, by Mary O'Hara Another twelve-year-old boy, Ken is a dreamer who wants a horse of his own. His father wants him to prove he can be responsible first, but finally gives in and give him a foal to be responsible for. His father is displeased when he chooses Flicka the daughter of a loco mare, who though fast, is uncontrollable. Full of adventure and the vast beauty of a Wyoming horse ranch, this classic is followed by two sequels that are equally gripping: Thunderhead, and Green Grass of Wyoming.

An Inmate's Daughter, by Jan Walker "On the first day of summer vacation between seventh and eighth grades, Jenna MacDonald does the dumbest thing ever. She saves a little girl from drowning." How could this be a bad thing? It draws attention to the island prison where her father lives, and her mother wants to keep the fact that her husband is serving time for murder a secret. Jenna writes her own secrets in her journal as she struggles to find friends and still keep the family secret.

Caddie Woodlawn, by Carol Ryrie Brink This classic will keep you spellbound as young Caddie Woodlawn and her brothers explore the edges of their frontier home, get into many scrapes and adventures, and make friends with their Indian neighbors.
